GP（general practitioner）是英國的醫療制度，可以合法居住在英國六個月以上的人都可以免費申請，內容是免費看病，拿藥的話，請到藥房，看身分和藥的種類而每個人的自付額都不一樣。申請方式請到NHS的網頁，有個Find NHS Service的選項，選擇你要搜尋的對象（e.g. Doctors），以及居住地的postcode，就可以找到住家附近的GP。請先打電話跟GP確認是否可再那註冊後，擇日去登記就行了。
我來英國的第一年，因為也沒生什麼非去看醫生的病，所以沒有去申請GP。雖然去過walk-in centre，不過那是另外一個故事，有機會再說明。結婚後，二月搬家，因為Andy需要換GP，所以我也一起跟去申請GP。
英國的配偶簽證是屬於”可在英國居住6個月以上”之簽證，所以理應可以登記GP。沒想到登記的時候，reception指著我的簽證說，no public funds，所以不讓我註冊，除非我登記為自費的病人（每次35磅）才能在該診所看病。
登記成private patient，回家後越想越不對：連留學生都可以登記GP了，我這個英國人老婆怎麼不行？所以查了相關網頁，關於no public funds的規定原來是這樣：

並沒有哪一條說，外籍配偶不能用NHS系統。另外，在UK visa的網頁裡，也說了，

The National Health Service (NHS) provides medical, dental and optical treatment. This is generally free of charge to United Kingdom residents, although nominal charges may be made for prescriptions and for dental and optical treatment.
所以次日打電話去GP那說明這些事，reception說，好吧，不過妳沒有NHS number，必須去申請一個來才能註冊。於是我連絡了Greenwich Primary Care Trust，他們又給我Kent Primary Care Agency的電話號碼，說是Greenwich地區是由這單位管理的，必須跟他們詢問。打電話去Kent Primary Care Agency，說明我的狀況後，他們說，
「妳不需要自己申請，事實上應該是妳第一次註冊時，妳的GP會幫妳申請。妳的GP是哪家？怎麼這個都不知道？」
所以那個笨蛋GP就被告狀啦！ :p
總之搞了二週（中間有些私事耽擱），總算註冊了GP，也完成問診。我們猜測GP當初不收我為一般病人的原因是：
1. 收為private patient可以賺比較多。
2. 我們這帶的外國人太多，GP煩不勝煩。
3. GP笨。
雖然英國的醫療制度很不值得依賴，但終於完成註冊，也真是一件快樂的事呀！（堪不堪用再說吧…）
